Greetings all, and welcome to this issue of The Wilmot Botanical Gardens newsletter. I begin with a broad statement: There is always something to look forward to. If a lifetime of being involved with horticulture and gardens has taught me anything, it is this.
We are all looking forward to some cooler temperatures, I’m sure. The shift in seasons will prompt many species to begin shedding leaves, or cease flowering, or simply retreat to the relative warmth of the underground. Here at Wilmot Botanical Gardens, we are definitely seeing something to look forward to– the coming blooming season of our Camellia species. These cool season bloomers comprise a major part of our collection, and we are seeing flower buds forming all around.
We still have some of our more tropical denizens going strong too, with Clerodendrum paniculata, Canna sp., and a spectacular variegated Hibiscus sp. leading the way.
Another event to look forward to is our upcoming Plant Sale, October 10-11, 2025. We are offering a carefully curated selection of many new species and cultivars, as well as your all-time favorites, so please have a look at the pre-sale flyer for the most convenient and cost-effective way to add some new and interesting specimens to your garden. Also, be sure to join us here at the Gardens on October 10th and 11th for exclusive access to Camellia varieties not offered on pre-sale, beautiful houseplants and edibles grown here in our own greenhouse, and best of all, in-person advice from our team of experts.
So, the view of cooler weather, beautiful blooms, and a plant sale that supports a worthy cause fills our vision. How wonderful. After all, everyone needs something to look forward to. As always, I sincerely hope you will…
